First place for BMW Group and second place for Siemens AG
In the IÖW/future ranking 2011 of large German companies, BMW Group went up two places from the last ranking in 2009 with its 2010 sustainability report coming out best of 150 companies. The Siemens AG 2010 sustainability report, “Seize opportunities, minimize risks, live our values” took second place again.
Since 1994, the German institute for ecological economic research (IÖW) and “future – taking responsibility” have been assessing company reporting of social aspects with the aim of achieving appropriate comparability of sustainability and CSR reports to support continual improvement in sustainability.
The systematic assessment is carried out using a comprehensive list of criteria with twelve main features including ecological aspects of production, responsibility within the supply chain and staff interests, and these are broken down into 48 single criteria. As well as these material reporting requirements, four features of general reporting quality are assessed: credibility, sustainability, comparability and communicative quality. These criteria are also expanded into individual points of industry-specific properties. Internal and external quality assurance measures guarantee a credible assessment result.
Partners in the production of the BMW Group Sustainable Value Report were the corporate responsibility specialist consultancy Schlange & Co. and hw.design, responsible for the visual design and realisation.
