Branding Deutscher Designtag e.V.

New corporate design for Deutscher Designtag – the most important German design institution

Quick Read

Deutscher Designtag e.V. is the umbrella organisation for Germany’s nationwide professional associations and institutions in the field of design, operating at the interface of design, politics and the economy. It represents 360,000 designers and 60,000 design companies. At the start of 2025, Deutscher Designtag was on the brink of a decisive step in terms of public perception – not least because of the first national congress, DIVE’25, in May – a development that was to be reflected in a completely new design system, a redesigned logo and a new corporate website.

Customer Challenge

The consolidated project team, made up of representatives from selected design associations, worked together with Boris Kochan to oversee the development of the pro bono project over the course of a few efficient design sprints. The brief was to create a professional presence that would establish the Deutscher Designtag as the leading authority on design in Germany, recognised by stakeholders in politics, industry, and other associations.

Solution

The key features of the new design system, in addition to the refreshed logo, are reflected in a new typeface (Postea by TypeTogether), a new colour scheme, a new layout principle, and an image concept derived from the logo.

Insight & Impact

The aim of the new corporate design was to develop a design framework that would showcase the diversity of content on a shared visual stage. A first use case for this was the development of the event branding for the inaugural Federal Congress of Deutscher Designtag – DIVE’25 – taking place in May 2025 in Munich. DIVE’25 is being held in the run-up to the Munich Creative Business Week, initiated by bayern design.
