Reporting Heidelberg Materials

Ten topics. One stance. One reporting.

Quick Read

The 2024 Business and Sustainability Report from Heidelberg Materials demonstrates how complex regulatory requirements can be translated into clear, audience-focused communication. Sustainability is not only embedded in the content but also showcased through design: a dedicated introductory chapter, structured infographics and a coherent narrative make the new reporting framework accessible.

Customer Challenge

The introduction of the ESRS fundamentally changes the nature of the management and sustainability report, confronting Heidelberg Materials with a key question: How can ten new topics be integrated alongside the management report, financial statements and notes, as well as standards such as GRI, TCFD and SASB — without turning transparency into opacity? And how can the sheer volume of information be prepared in a way that is clear and comprehensible for all stakeholders?

Solution

The result is a screen-optimised PDF in 16:9 format that relies on recurring design elements to make the content easy to grasp. This applies in particular to the ESRS section: although the topics it covers are part of the management report, each one is introduced by a full-page infographic visualising impacts, risks and opportunities — spanning environmental, social and governance aspects.

Insight & Impact

The 2024 Business and Sustainability Report is therefore much more than a response to expanded regulatory requirements — it is a visible commitment to our corporate ethos. By placing the information needs and usage habits of stakeholders at the centre of its design, a reporting has been created that optimally condenses, structures, and clearly presents the newly added content.
