The fascination with the BMW Group is shaped not only by its products and technology but also by the company’s history, influenced by inventors, pioneers, and engineers. The company’s innovative strength was also reflected in its reporting, which in 2020 led to the BMW Group becoming the first premium manufacturer to publish an integrated annual reporting in collaboration with hw.design.

Customer Challenge
Every annual report had to become a symbol of the BMW Group’s premium strategy. Each report was required to surpass the previous year’s in terms of innovation, creativity, as well as visual and content quality. As a result, the BMW Group also became a pioneer in the field of reporting. Integrated Reporting according to the IIRC aims for a holistic perspective through entirely different KPIs.
Solution
The report combines financial and sustainability reporting from the perspective of Integrated Reporting and is regarded as the most innovative approach to reporting. Both a digital and a print version were produced. Under the concept of Intelligent Reporting, hw.design developed a new format strategy that did not replicate the content coherently between the digital and print versions, but rather adapted it according to stakeholder benefit and reading habits.

hw.design has supported the company for over 20 years since 2001 in the conception and production of its annual and sustainability reports, winning numerous awards for its work.
